Have you ever wondered about the planting and growth of churches in your community? Some, of course, were planted in recent years perhaps in the 1990s Decade of Harvest. Other churches were started many decades ago and grew through the efforts of extended revival meetings that this magazine often reported. Take the March 7, 1936, Evangel, for example. Under the column, "In the Whitened Harvest Field," 25 churches reported winter revival meetings, some during record-breaking cold weather.
Wayne Warner, director Fayetteville, Ark. We have just closed a revival sponsored jointly by the Fayetteville Gospel Tabernacle and the Fairground Assembly. Forty-three were saved and 23 received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. L.R. Lynch San Jon, N.M. The Lord is blessing the work here. Evangelist and Mrs. Clarence Love were with us in a revival a short time ago. About 32 were saved and 10 received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. W.A. Gilbert San Jose, Calif. This is Evangelist Bruce Gibsons sixth week at the Upper Room Pentecostal Mission. A few have professed salvation and a number have received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. [Brother Gibson] makes everything so plain and brings the gospel right down to our everyday life. Max Freimark Huron, S.D. We just closed a very successful meeting at the Gospel Tabernacle, Rolfe Evangelistic Party in charge. [Despite the record-breaking cold] the crowds kept coming. During the three-and-a-half-week meeting 35 knelt for salvation, most of them young people between the ages of 15 and 25. Claude L. Conkin Moscow, Pa. The Lord has given us a very precious four-week revival. Charles M. Shaffer, 15-year-old evangelist, is in charge. We praise God for His faithfulness in saving about 40 souls.
Rudolph W. Metzger Youngstown, Ohio We recently closed a four-week meeting with [former prison inmate] Mattie Howard, evangelist, assisted by her brother Leon. Hundreds of people attended and 33 came forward for salvation, most of them young people. Alex H. Clattenburg Trenton, Mo. In a four-and-one-half-week meeting, despite the sub-zero weather, the crowds were remarkable. Thirty-seven professed Christ as their personal Savior, and 13 were filled with the blessed Holy Spirit. K.A. Auten, evangelist |
